Arnaud Lambert 'Clos Mazurique' Saumur Cabernet Franc 2023
A pure, lifted Loire Cabernet Franc showing bright red cherry, raspberry, violet, crushed herbs, and a deep limestone-driven mineral core. The palate is energetic and precise, with crunchy red fruit, fine tannins, and a savory, chalky finish that emphasizes freshness over weight.
Key Details:
Producer: Arnaud Lambert is one of the defining modern voices of Saumur, based in the village of Brézé — a site better known for world-class Chenin than red wine. What makes him important is not style, but discipline: he farms organically, works low-intervention in the cellar, and treats each parcel as something to be revealed. Clos Mazurique sits just outside Saumur-Champigny in sandy limestone soils, which naturally give Cabernet Franc its most expressive, lifted, and aromatic form.
Region / Appellation: Saumur, Loire Valley, France
Varietal: 100% Cabernet Franc
Vintage: 2023
Style: Dry red wine; medium-bodied, high-acid Loire profile with minimal oak influence.
Why It’s Special: This is Cabernet Franc in its most drinkable, energetic form. It’s not trying to be powerful or structured — it’s just alive. The sandy limestone soils strip weight and replace it with perfume, crunch, and tension. You get red cherry, raspberry skin, violets, crushed herbs, and a chalky mineral line that makes the wine feel like it’s vibrating.
We think it matters because this is exactly what Loire Cabernet Franc is supposed to taste like - fruit, soil, and acid working in harmony.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roast poultry, mushrooms, lentils, charcuterie, and grilled vegetables.
