Dönnhoff Kreuznacher Kahlenberg Riesling trocken 2023
This dry Nahe Riesling is vivid, elegant, and full of stony charm, opening with white peach, citrus, white blossoms, and a cool slatey minerality that gives the wine brightness and lift. On the palate, it is juicy yet precise, with supple orchard fruit, a fine salty edge, refreshing acidity, and a long, mineral finish that makes it especially lovely with seafood, but we'd drink it with anything.

Key Details:

Producer: Dönnhoff — one of Germany’s benchmark estates in the Nahe, led by Cornelius Dönnhoff and internationally admired for Rieslings that combine precision, elegance, and deep site expression. The estate farms steep, stony vineyards (with Roman ruins!) and is especially known for translating subtle differences in terroir into remarkably distinctive wines.

Region / Appellation: Kreuznacher Kahlenberg, Nahe, Germany. Kahlenberg is a VDP Erste Lage site (1er Cru Site) in the Bad Kreuznach area, with gravelly, free-draining soils and a warmer, sun-exposed setting that helps give the wine its generous fruit and mineral drive.

Varietal: 100% Riesling.

Vintage: 2023.

Style / ABV: Dry white wine; 12.5% ABV. This is a trocken Riesling from a premier cru–level vineyard site, with a style that balances charm and texture with freshness and mineral structure.

Why It’s Special: This wine is special because it comes from one of Dönnhoff’s top village-area vineyard sites and shows how expressive dry Riesling can be in the Nahe. Kahlenberg brings a beautiful mix of ripeness, stony minerality, and savory finesse, while Dönnhoff’s careful farming and restrained cellar work preserve the vineyard’s clarity and energy in the glass.

Food Pairing: Excellent with oysters, grilled fish, roast chicken, pork schnitzel, asparagus, herb-driven dishes, or creamy cheeses. Its citrusy fruit, mineral backbone, and polished texture.
