Guy Amiot et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet ‘Vieilles Vignes’ Rouge 2023 Pinot Noir • Chassagne-Montrachet, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
crisp red forest fruit and warm spice up front, then it deepens into dense red cherry and a little forest floor, medium-bodied and concentrated with firm, fine tannins. the kind of red Burgundy that gets better with every sip.
Arsène Amiot started buying vines in Chassagne in the 1920s and was one of the first in Burgundy to bottle his own wine instead of selling to the big houses. four generations later, Thierry Amiot runs the domaine with support from his brother Fabrice, and they even own a tiny sliver of Le Montrachet. Chassagne is famous for white wine, so a great red from here is the insider move. this one comes from about a dozen small plots of 45-year-old vines on the lower slopes, fully destemmed and aged for close to two years. so balanced.
pair it with: roast chicken with herbs, mushroom-and-gruyère anything, or the Thanksgiving turkey (dark meat, please).
