Hirsch Vineyards ‘Bohan-Dillon’ Pinot Noir 2024 Pinot Noir • Sonoma Coast, California
cherry, ripe strawberry and cassis, then plum skin, wet stone and redwood forest floor as it opens up, juicy and easy-drinking with enough lift to throw a slight chill on it.
David Hirsch planted on a remote ridge near Fort Ross in 1980, when everyone said it was too cold and too far out to ripen Pinot. he was right and they were wrong, and his daughter Jasmine took over as winemaker with the 2019 vintage. the 2024 Bohan-Dillon is all estate fruit (very special because this is usually a blend of fruit from along the Bohan-Dillon road), farmed biodynamically, from five different clones, most planted in the ’90s, and only 27% new oak so the coast does the talking. and the cat on the label? that’s Bobes, the winery cat who got bitten by rattlesnakes twice and lived. legend.
pair it with: mushroom risotto, salmon off the grill (sneaky good pairing), or a Friday date night in.
