Chianti Classico is a protected zone with its own rules for what can carry the name, and Castagnoli sits right on the western edge of it, in Castellina, at 450 meters. That elevation matters: cool nights up there keep the acidity bright. The estate dates back to 998 AD and was one of the first in Tuscany to farm certified organic, all Sangiovese, grown as old bush vines on dry-stone terraces.
