Left Coast ‘Brut Rosé of Pinot Meunier’ 2017
Pinot Meunier • Van Duzer Corridor, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Wild strawberry and pink grapefruit, with a creamy bead and a dry, snappy finish. Left Coast is a family estate in Rickreall that two parents founded in 2003, and they put ownership in their kids’ hands from day one. The name comes from the family too: three of the five are left-handed. Cool ocean air pours through the Van Duzer Corridor onto hillside vines on a 447-acre property where the family has restored more than 100 acres of native oak savanna, and the winery runs on solar and is LIVE and Salmon-Safe certified. Pinot Meunier is Champagne’s quiet workhorse grape, so seeing it take the lead in an Oregon sparkler is a treat.
Pair it with: smoked salmon on rye, a brunch that runs past noon.
