Green apple, ripe apricot, and lime zest with honeysuckle and crushed slate, a whisper of sweetness balanced by bright, mouthwatering acidity. Max Kilburg is a 20th-generation Mosel winemaker who runs his family’s historic Geierslay cellar and trained under Julian Haart, one of the region’s rising stars. Vertigo is a collaboration with the importer vom Boden: a blend of barrels from Max’s cellar and from neighboring Wintrich growers the Kilburgs have known forever, all from the village’s slate-rich slopes. It’s fermented with native yeast in stainless steel and finished feinherb, the German term for off-dry, so there’s just a touch of sweetness on the dry side of fruity. Love this one.
