Lemon zest and white flowers over warm brioche, then green apple and a chalky, saline snap that keeps pulling you back to the glass. The Péters family has farmed Le Mesnil-sur-Oger since 1840, when a Luxembourger named Gaspard Péters married into a local vineyard, and Rodolphe Péters has run the estate since 2008. Cuvée de Réserve is all Grand Cru Chardonnay from Le Mesnil, Oger, Avize, and Cramant. Roughly half the blend comes from a perpetual reserve, with wines going back to 1988, so every bottle carries decades of the house in it. Grower Champagne at its best.
Pair it with: a dozen oysters, a bag of salty kettle chips, someone’s birthday.
