Tenuta di Cecchi “Villa Rosa” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2016
Elegant, savory, and beautifully mature in expression, this Chianti Classico Gran Selezione opens with red cherry, wild berry, violet, dried herbs, cedar, tobacco, and a gentle thread of spice. On the palate, it is graceful yet firmly built, with vibrant acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a long, earthy finish. We only have magnums, so bring the party!
Key Details:
Producer: Tenuta di Cecchi — one of Tuscany’s historic family-owned wine houses, with more than a century of winemaking rooted in Chianti Classico. The Cecchi family is known for combining traditional Tuscan identity with careful, modern precision in the vineyard and cellar.
Region / Appellation: Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG, Castellina in Chianti, Tuscany, Italy. Villa Rosa is an estate in Castellina in Chianti, one of the classic communes of the appellation, with vineyards planted on calcareous clay soils that include alberese limestone and marl.
Varietal: 100% Sangiovese
Vintage: 2016
Style / ABV: Dry red wine; 14% ABV. The wine is aged in oak casks for about 15 months, followed by additional time in concrete and then extended bottle aging before release, giving it both structure and refinement.
Why It’s Special: This is a single historic estate in Castellina and is made entirely from Sangiovese, allowing the character of the site to take center stage. The 2016 vintage brought excellent balance and depth, and the Gran Selezione aging regimen gives the wine added detail, length, and a beautifully composed sense of terroir.
Food Pairing: Excellent with roast duck, braised beef, wild boar ragù, porcini mushrooms, or aged pecorino, but really, any Tuscan-esk dishes will go wonderfully. We also enjoy it with the spaghetti and meatballs.
